In June, Beijing will once again host Limmud China. And just like our small community, it is much more than the sum of its parts. It is an opportunity to share, exchange ideas, and make connections. A chance to meet new friends, from near or far, and rediscover those we thought we knew. We all have something to share, something to teach, and something to learn. We are so excited to welcome you and to learn from you.

If you are interested in attending Limmud China as a participant, please read on for more information and click the “Register Now” button.

If you or someone you know is interested in running a session at Limmud China 2018, please get in touch with us at, and go to our Session Leaders page for more information.

What will happen at Limmud China 2018?

This year, Limmud China will be hosted from June 15 - 17 at a retreat center about an hour and a half outside of Beijing (in Huairou). Participants will arrive on the evening of Friday, June 15, before Shabbat begins for an evening of workshops, dinner, and services. On Saturday, we will start the morning with shacharit before launching into a day of workshops and speakers. There will be multiple sessions run each hour, so participants can pick the topics most interesting to them. We’ll conclude the evening with singing and havdalah. On Sunday morning, there will be more communal activities before we wrap up the weekend and head back to Beijing.

What kind of sessions will I attend at Limmud China?

Our sessions vary from lectures to workshops to music jam sessions to debates. There will be 2-3 sessions running each hour, so it’s up to you to choose which sessions you want to attend. In the past our sessions have ranged from Indian dancing to text study sessions to a sociological look at contemporary Jewish marriages!

Who attends Limmud China?

Jews of all ages and religious orientations, from China, East Asia and other parts of the world. Only a small minority of participants work professionally for the Jewish community - most are simply interested in learning.

What is the room situation?

Because of the rooms available to us at the hotel, if you are coming on your own, we might ask you to share a room with someone. If you are coming as a couple, as a family, or want to share a room with a specific friend do let us know!

If for any reason you are not comfortable sharing a room, get in touch with us and we will try to accomodate your needs. Please note that this will cost us more money, and we may have to ask you to cover the extra expense.

What is the food situation?

Limmud is a pluralistic organisation and we want all Jews to feel welcomed. However, there is not a great abundance of Kosher caterers in Beijing. As such, we have asked the hotel to provide us with fully vegetarian catering. If you require strictly Kosher food please let us know in advance and we will have it arranged. Unfortunately this will cost more than the regular food.
